Today, a champion will be crowned from among the world’s best air guitarists currently gathered in Oulu, Finland for the 21st time. Yes, there really is such a thing. Contestants are subjectively scored based on technical merit, mimesmanship, stage presence and airness.
Ever since 1996, the Air Guitar World Championships has spread the peaceful message of Air Guitar across the world: According to the ideology of the Air Guitar, wars would end, climate change stop and all bad things disappear, if all the people in the world played the Air Guitar. At the end of the competition, the whole universe is invited to play the Air Guitar for the world peace. The contest has gone world-wide with massive international press coverage, several official national championships as well as tons of devoted fans in social media.
