Stranger Than Fiction

bdb3Elected” is a 1972 song by rock band Alice Cooper, the first Hot 100 hit on their 6th studio album Billion Dollar Babies. The single reached #26 during election week on the US charts, #4 on the UK charts and #3 in Austria. It inspired one of the first MTV-style story-line promos ever made for a song.

Billion Dollar Babies is the sixth studio album by American rock band Alice Cooper, released in 1973.[1][2]The album became the best selling Alice Cooper record at the time of its release, hit number one on the album charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom, and went on to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album was well received by such critics as Robert Christgau, Greg Prato of AllMusic, and Jason Thompson of popmatters, but Rolling Stone gave the album only two and a half stars.

I’m your top prime cut of meat, I’m your choice
I wanna be elected
I’m your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce
I wanna be elected
Kids want a savior, don’t need a fake
I wanna be elected
We’re gonna rock to the rules that I make
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
I never lied to you, I’ve always been cool
I wanna be elected
I gotta get the vote, and I told you about school
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
Hallelujah, I wanna be elected
Everyone in the United States of America
We’re gonna win this one, take the country by storm
We’re gonna be elected
You and me together, young and strong
We’re gonna be elected, elected, elected
Respected, selected, call collected
I wanna be elected, elected

It has been and continues to be a strange year in politics. I am not sure even the best fiction authors could have come up with this story line.

Yes, this is a strange election year. Now that I think of it (thanks to the song lyric), this election IS a lot like high school, when the most popular candidate won–but what did they really win? A bragging right, with no real job description. Running for president of the country is a bit different, or should be. It’s sad that the media only reports the insults and responses, also sad that folks base their decisions on what the media choose to let us hear. Few people actually enjoy homework, I suppose.

  2. Tim says:

Our country is definitely headed in the wrong direction, no matter who wins Tuesday. Interesting poll, with surprising results.
